The Power of Navigating a New Trail
Dear Friends,
The youth in our program are curious, courageous, and resilient. This summer, we saw those strengths grow as they stepped into new environments, tried new things, and stretched beyond their comfort zones.
Alongside their Professional Mentors, youth navigated unfamiliar hiking trails, sampled new foods in Chinatown, and experienced their first Broadway musical. These experiences were much more than summer outings. They gave youth opportunities to build skills that are essential for success in school: confidence, persistence, problem-solving, curiosity, self-advocacy, and the willingness to try something new even when it feels challenging.
As youth return to school, those strengths matter more than ever. A young person who learns to navigate a new trail can also learn to persist through a difficult assignment. A youth who finds the confidence to try an unfamiliar experience is practicing the same courage it takes to raise a hand, ask for help, join a new activity, or tackle a challenging subject.
And they do not have to do it alone. Every youth in our program has a dedicated Professional Mentor in their corner, providing the safety, encouragement, and consistency they need to keep growing.
Our full-time Professional Mentors provide trauma-informed, individualized support week after week. They help youth navigate academic transitions, build strong habits, advocate for themselves, overcome setbacks, and celebrate their successes. Most importantly, they remain by each child's side for 12+ years, no matter what.
Your gift helps ensure that every youth we serve has a Professional Mentor who can build on their strengths, support their success in school, and help them imagine and achieve a brighter future.
Thank you for believing in their potential and investing in them for the long term.
With gratitude,
Susan Corlett
