The garden honors Speaker Emerita Pelosi's longstanding commitment to children and families while creating a welcoming space where youth can gather, learn, play, and grow. Its creation reflects Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area's belief that young people should have access to outdoor spaces that are safe and quiet and that they should help shape those spaces.
"Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area reminds us of a simple but powerful truth: every child deserves someone who believes in them.
I am deeply honored that this garden will bear my name, but its true purpose is far greater than that. It is a place where young people can learn, grow and dream. It was an honor to secure the federal support that made this permanent home possible—creating a lasting symbol of hope, opportunity and our enduring commitment For The Children."

Speaker Emerita Pelosi's support played a critical role in making the organization's permanent home possible. In 2022, she secured a transformational $750,000 grant through a Community Project Funding Request as part of an omnibus bill approved by Congress and signed by President Biden. This supported Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area's purchase of its home at 4100 3rd Street, creating a lasting place to deliver the organization’s professional mentoring model and where children and families can build relationships, access resources, and experience a sense of belonging.
"Today, there is really only one thing to say: For the Children!" said Susan Corlett, Executive Director of Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area. "Speaker Pelosi’s support helped make this permanent home a reality, creating a space for our youth to feel safe, curious, and inspired to discover their own spark. We are incredibly proud to dedicate this garden in honor of her lifelong commitment to children and families."
In addition to dedicating the new garden and touring the permanent home, Speaker Pelosi and her team celebrated with the youth and Professional Mentors during a Cupcake Decorating Contest. The event underscored the powerful, shared commitment to uplifting children and families in Bayview Hunters Point and across San Francisco.
