In Memoriam: Peter Gabel (1947-2022)

Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area joins the San Francisco community in mourning the passing of attorney, educator, author and community activist Peter Gabel. Peter and his partner Lisa Jaicks have been longtime supporters of Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area, and Peter was the mastermind behind our partnership with the Noe Valley Farmers Market. Peter convinced the Market’s board of directors to finance the initial produce deliveries to our families, then staffed a card table at the Market for many months to raise funds to continue the program. Thanks to Peter’s persistence and generosity, we have already delivered over 1,800 bags of groceries to our families, all of whom live in a food desert!

Peter championed countless community causes for over five decades but he took particular pride in the Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area and Noe Valley Farmers Market partnership, which furthered his unique vision of San Francisco communities supporting one another.
