Ja'Vonte Wills is a native of Fairfield, California. His aspirations to work with youth began on a mission trip to the Philippines. During the powerful 2-week experience, he most enjoyed visiting schools and talking to youth about their hopes as well as the hardships they faced in their daily lives. During this trip, Ja'Vonte also participated in a basketball program, holding mini camps for the kids which provided an opportunity for them to practice their basketball skills and learn more about the sport. In addition, Ja'Vonte competed in exhibition games against local amateur teams, which the kids really enjoyed watching. The connection he built with the children he met during this time led Ja'Vonte to seek a way to help youth closer to home and make a longer-term impact.
Ja'Vonte studied Psychology at Solano Community College and worked for a time in the fitness industry. About a year ago, Ja'Vonte began work as a Behavior Technician in the Sacramento area, where he excelled in his 1:1 work with children on the autism spectrum. Realizing he wanted to have a greater impact with youth in a more holistic manner, he was excited when he learned about Friends of the Children from a close friend, who is also a Professional Mentor with this chapter.
Ja'Vonte loves music and dancing and DJs in his spare time. Ja'Vonte's favorite music artist of all time is Michael Jackson. He also loves basketball (but is not a Golden State Warriors fan).
