Professional Mentor

Deshon Everett Jr joined Friends of Children in February 2023 as a Professional Mentor. He obtained an Associate of Science in Administration of Justice at Diablo Valley College in 2020. He’s currently a student at San Francisco State University working on completing his Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Program.

Deshon is a native San Franciscan who grew up in the Sunnydale and Bayview districts. He loves his community and has always wanted the opportunity to give back to the community that had an impact on who he is today. Deshon is charismatic and wants to bring that energy when mentoring the youth. His aspirations to work with children began when he was a Recreation Specialist at the Mt. Diablo CARES After School Program in the East Bay. During his time, Deshon was versatile working at various schools, and after 2 years he was promoted to Recreational Leader. Some of the work he did at CARES was assisting students with homework, teaching guided cooking lessons, and coaching students the fundamentals of sports, such as basketball, baseball, and soccer. To his students, Deshon was most known for his art. Deshon plans to show those from an urban background that no matter where you come from, it does not define where you are headed.

Deshon loves spending time with friends and family. He loves sports, enjoys watching stand up comedy, and going on vacation. Deshon’s favorite musical artist of all time is Currently. During his downtime you may catch him at a concert living his best life.

“Love life and Dream big.”-Deshon Everett Jr.
