Alex Jaeger

Professional Mentor & Education Lead (ES)

Alex Jaeger joined Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area in March 2016 as the organization’s first Professional Mentor. Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Alex benefited from having a mentor through the PAL NYSP program who guided him through challenges during high school. Remarkably, when Alex began his training with Friends of the Children, he was reunited with that same mentor, who is now part of the Friends of the Children-National team.

Alex’s passion for mentoring youth in Bayview/Hunter’s Point is deeply rooted in his own experiences as a teenager who overcame struggles with the help of mentorship. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and Spanish Language from San Francisco State University.

Before joining Friends of the Children-SF Bay Area, Alex gained extensive experience working with youth in various educational settings. He coached soccer, substitute taught, and led enrichment activities across multiple institutions. Alex also served as a tech for the Humanities Department at Berkeley City College and as an English Language Learning teacher at Albany High School.

After completing his studies, Alex worked for two years with the Jamestown Community Center at Buena Vista Horace Mann and Cesar Chavez Elementary as a 1st and 3rd grade teacher. He later joined San Francisco Day School as a resident substitute teacher and youth soccer coach, working with both 11U boys and 13U girls teams.

Alex brings a wealth of skills to his role, including strong interpersonal communication, education-focused learning strategies, coaching expertise, and conversational Spanish. His lived experiences, coupled with his professional background, fuel his commitment to empowering young people and helping them thrive through mentorship.
